Creating that image that provokes thoughts alongside questions, can be a challenge. We aim to challenge ourselves every day when it comes to photography. The challenge could be something like:
Lighting: - Making sure the subject is lit correctly and not over exposed. If slightly under exposed, you may be able to bring it back to correct exposure.
Posing: - Make sure that the model is telling or selling the story behind the shot. Allowing angles such as triangles to be subtly prominent in the picture.
Emotion: - Allow the eyes to provoke the emotion and the body language to create the connection with the camera, thus the viewer.
The edit: - Trying not to over edit the image. Edit enough to clean the photo up, also enough that it looks like you were never there.
Style: - Create your own style but allow your work to be bespoke and adaptable for each client and look.
So, take on those challenges and keep pushing and testing your boundaries. Learn from others, recreate in your own style. Look at old pieces of work and see what you would now do differently or can do differently.
This information is not only for the photographer who read this, but also for the client/model in or creating the shot. Evoke that emotion, totally connect with the camera. Commit with all you have to give and tell that story, whether a love story or a powerful connecting lifestyle shoot. Never be afraid of on-lookers, the haters are envious and wish they could do what you are doing. The others are just intrigued to see how well you do what you do.
Let’s get creative.
