With a lot of self-promoting via Instagram and Facebook, I was asked to join a Soca troop in carnival and capture the day…
The day was amazing, and my images told the story through photography. While there, I got talking to a mum and daughter and managed to capture the two generations showing full enjoyment and leaving it all on the roads of Notting Hill. The daughter wanted to try her luck at modelling and asked if I could assist in creating a portfolio for her.
With date and location set, she arrived nice and early for a run through of the session. Because there was no Makeup artist, I asked her to remove all her makeup and just apply some foundation and concealer for a base and I will do the rest in post.
I wanted her to look as natural as possible, so the hair and makeup was done with minimal effort.
Wearing a strapless top, to give clear lines we took some test shots. She was very nervous to do this shoot with me for the first time. But after the test shots were done, and she could see her results, she felt more and more relaxed.
The good thing about studio shoots is that there are no real disturbances, and the focus can be based solely on the model/client.
On location, you may have other distractions, such as traffic or footfall passing by. This may need a more vocal approach to direction to create the final image.
Anyway, back in the studio… Once we have what we originally planned for, I call it a wrap. She then viewed all pictures and got them loaded onto the computer for a better viewing. I sent her all JPEGs via email to discuss the retouching if any is needed for the shoot.
This a before and after of the shoot. What are your thoughts?
